The Master

Hakan Çağan

Hakan Çağan is a researcher, practitioner and educator in natural dyeing and traditional textile arts, and since 2006 the student and apprentice of Prof. Dr. Mustafa Genç.

At the İzmir Maturation Institute he records recipes for colours from Aegean dye plants; in 2026 he was registered as a Bearer of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Through Natural Dye he brings this knowledge to dyers as natural dyestuffs.

Biography and work

“Every root, every hull, every flower carries a colour the soil has kept. Our work is to bring that colour out with patience.”
